Saeko Photo Shoot

Saeko Photo Shoot
12 Feb 2010 22:51:45

Hello everyone. This past Wednesday I returned from a week long stay at my parents' house. When I returned I had two packages waiting for me. One of these packages was Chara-Ani's 1/8 figure of Saeko Busujima from Highschool of the Dead. I actually read the fifth volume and the two chapters of volume six that have been released so far while I was at my parents' house and I really like the series. I was very happy to hear that they are making an anime for it and that the manga is coming off of hiatus. Saeko is easily my favorite character in the series so I was glad that I could get a pretty good deal on this figure from a seller on ebay.

Anyway, I took a bunch of pictures of her. There are a total of 31 pictures in this post. Sorry if it's a bit overkill, but there are three different ways to display her and I took 9 pictures of each, plus a few other pictures, like two pictures of the box. =P

The front side of the box. You can see her second set of arms, alternate apron, sword, scabbard, and wooden sword to the right of the figure.

And the back of the box with the amusing "DANGER! AGES 15 & UP" warning. Kind of interesting that it's 15 & up. I guess that might be because her nipples aren't painted. I'll get more into that later.

As I said, there are three different ways you can display this figure: with the basic full cover apron, with the alternate between-boobs apron, and topless without an apron. There are also different options as far as what swords you can have her hold, but we won't get into that. For simplicity's sake, there are three main way to display the figure. Okay? Alright. Now, with that said, and since we still don't have a Hentai filter for blog posts I'll make the formal warning now: There are BOOBS in some of these pictures! If you have a problem with NUDITY, do not go beyond the next 9 pictures! So yeah, the first 9 photos of Saeko are of her in her "full cover" basic apron.

There is some pretty nice side-boob in a lot of these pictures, though.

And she wears string thong panties. ^_^

And you can see her nipples poking through the apron. That's a nice little feature. :)

More Side-Boob!

Really nice side-boob....

Anyway, stepping way from the subject of boobs for a moment, I decided to display Saeko with her sword and scabbard in her hands for this set of pictures. This is also how I display her on my shelf. Since she's on my public manga shelf, I won't have her breasts exposed. And that's kind of a shame because I really like the between-boobs apron.

Pretty nice view of her butt here, as well as more side-boob. ^_^

And a close-up with a good view of her face, and more butt and side-boob. XD

And another close-up, this time with a front view of her chest and a profile of her face.

Alright, next up we have Saeko in her alternate between-boobs apron. Again, one last warning, this is where the NAKED BOOBS start.

As I was saying before, and as you can see now, her nipples are not painted any different from the rest of her skin.

I mean, she has nipples, you can see that they do have definition unlike Glory's Human Mage figure, they just didn't paint them like they should have.

In Neko Magic's review of the figure they have a set of photos from a guy who painted the nipples himself (they also have scans of the original artwork the figure was inspired by). They look nice with color, but I don't know if I'd want the areolas quite as large as he made them. And I'd be too scared I'd mess up the figure to do it myself. Maybe I can have one of my more crafty friends do it for me? They're pretty good at painting their Warhammer 40K miniatures. ^_^

A shot from behind. This one actually doesn't have any boob in it!

I really like this view. Nice butt shot, side-boob, and profile of her face.

And a close-up with more butt and boob action and another good view of her face. I like her eyes.

I also like how the alternate arms hold up the apron. I'd really like to display her like this....

Good view of the boobies here. ^_^

And the last picture of this set, a nice upward angle.

And for the last set of pictures we have Saeko not wearing any apron! She's completely topless wearing nothing but her panties, knife holsters, and shoes. ^_^

Without the apron in the way you can see that Saeko has a very athletic body. Impossibly perfect abs!

I have her holding her sword in one hand and her wooden sword in the other for this set of pictures. Pretty good view of them here.

Yeah, it'd be nice to give those nipples some color....

The knife holsters on Saeko's arms actually weren't a part of the artwork in the original manga, but it was a good thing to add in order to conceal the seams where the exchangeable arms connect.

Another picture from the back with no boobs!

And again, I like this angle. :)

Close-up!

Close-up with front shot of boobs!

And the final picture of the main photo shoot again showing off those abs and making me wish for color nipples. =P

So I really like this figure, but it does have a few flaws. Time to get critical! Now, some of these may be design issues (something that would effect all of the figures) while others may be production flaws (I might have got a figure that just wasn't lucky and was made a little crappier than the rest).

1. As I already mentioned many times, no color nipples. Obviously a design issue. I don't see why they didn't add that little touch of shading. I mean, my Echidna figure didn't have a lot of color to her nipples, but there was at least something there. It looks kind of weird to not have the color when you have the nipples defined in the molding.

2. Loose fitting head, arms, and swords. The first thing I noticed about this figure is how easily her head popped off. It just fell right off when I was taking her out of the packaging. I'm just glad she's a completed figure that's just meant to be displayed and not an action figure type. Her arms also don't fit very tightly. I had to scrap almost my entire first set of photos because her left arm slipped down a little without me noticing it, but it left a very obvious gap in the pictures I took. The alternate arms a little better, but not by much. And it's really hard to position her swords in her hands just right so they don't fall out. It isn't quite as bad with her right hand, but it's really hard with her left. Maybe I just got a bad left arm? I don't know.

3. Messy assembly. I really hope this is a production flaw unique to my figure and maybe a few others. This was the second problem I really noticed about this figure after her head fell off. I was looking at her butt and noticed very obvious glue residue around where her right leg is attached. I have a picture here:

It is also very noticeable from the other side:

That whole area around her panties looks pretty bad when you look at it up close. There are also a few spots on her body that look like paint blotches. It makes me sad. I'm hoping that my crafty 40K players might be able to do something about that, too, while I am asking about the nipple painting issue. And one last thing that I don't really want to write a whole fourth thing for, I don't really like that the figure is attached to its base with a screw. Meh.

In the end, even with the flaws, I really like the figure. I don't regret buying it at all. So that's it for my Saeko Photo Shoot and Review Thing! Hope you enjoyed it. ^_^

Oh, and keep an eye out for the review of the second package that I had waiting for me. I won't tell you what it is, but it is something completely different! XD
